Spread the Word: Trades!
Posted by on: May 9, 2014
This week, I want to introduce you to just one of the many online resources for women in trades. It didn’t take me long to find links to job-seeking, training, and general support resources just for you!
Women in Work Boots
Started by Jill Drader, Journeyman Tilesetter, this Calgary-based organization provides information about training, and careers paths. They also share inspirational stories and advice through a magazine, and a lively facebook page; it’s well worth checking out. The goal of the organizations is “to inform women of an opportunistic and rewarding career path they may not have ever thought to consider: the trades.” Spreading the words about trades opportunities for women is more important now than ever, so make sure you do your part. Please visit the link and share!

Also this week, a scholarship opportunity from the Southern Interior Construction Association (SICA) was brought to my attention. The Howard Strong Scholarship is available to students and apprentices. The deadline is approaching fast, so visit their website for other eligibility criteria.

Lunch ‘n Learn: Next Thursday, May 15th at 11:30 (TT219). Female trades students and apprentices, and former WITT participants are asked to bring their lunch to TT219 for information about the Skilled Trades Employment Program (STEP), and also about ways the Career Education Department can you get ready for employment! Don’t miss it – free, fun, and a chance to build our community. See you there.
