Thank you to everyone who attended our Women in Trades lunch! Special thanks to Gina McPherson (pictured), Electrical Safety Officer, BC Safety Authority, and to Helen Poss, Regional Employment Specialist, Skilled Trades Employment Program. Gina McPherson shared her story of beginning her electrical career in the late 1970s, later moving into a teaching role, and now functioning as a safety inspector. Her experience provides all of us with inspiration, and demonstrates the many possible paths of a career in trades. To that end, Helen Poss offered a variety of ways that the STEP program assists new tradeswomen seeking employment, including helping with resumes, providing funding for tools and safety gear, and connecting job seekers with employers.
